Genesis Power Station
'STOP RODNEY POWER STATION' campaign
The campaign against Genesis Energy's gas-burning baseload plant in Kaukapakapa has stepped up a gear. KARRA's power station sub-committee has launched a new website www.stoprodneypowerstation.org and visitors to the site can read KARRA's formal submissions on the proposal, and other supporting material. With only days until the council hearing begins, KARRA needs your help - please donate to the campaign today. Internet banking details are on the new website or cheques can be made out to 'KARRA' and posted to PO Box 8, Kaukapakapa 0843. If you have any questions, email Pip McAlwee at info@stoprodneypowerstation.org
Proposed Rodney Power Station
Genesis Energy's applications for the 480MW gas-fired base load Rodney Power Station were notified on 3 April 2008 and submissions closed on 16 May. The hearing is set down for late September."
Rodney District Council is processing a private plan change to the Operative Rodney District Plan 1993, and a parallel variation to the Proposed Rodney District Plan. Auckland Regional Council is processing fifteen land use consents and water and air discharge permits filed with both councils.
The application documents are on display at Rodney libraries and service centres, are available on CD (from ARC and RDC), and can also be downloaded from the following websites:
Along with many other Kaukapakapa residents, KARRA made submissions opposing the Rodney Power Station applications (see below). A sub-committee has been formed with Pip McAlwee, Neville Miller, Bruce Cowan, Pat McMahon, Crispin Caldicott and Nigel Bennetts now turning their attention to how best to present KARRA's submission at the hearing in late September. The sub-committee plan to bring experts on board to support their case, and this is where they need help from the Kaukapakapa community. Please show your support by making a donation, or offering any support or services that you think might be useful. Cheques can be made out to 'KARRA' and posted to PO Box 8, Kaukapakapa. Donations will only be used for the power station campaign. A new website, stoprodneypowerstation.org, will be up and running in July and will provide bank account details for those who would prefer to donate using internet banking. If we're going to stop the power station, we need your help!

A number of Kaukapakapa residents have been investigating Genesis Energy's proposal on behalf of the local community. The information sheets below have been compiled by KARRA committee member, Pip McAlwee, who can be contacted at info@rodneypowerstation.org
